On my Beatles tour I always visit the famous Abbey Road Crossing and offer my clients the opportunity for a photo on this iconic location. What I love about this part of the tour is that there is always something going on! I found Paddington Bear on the crossing back in the late summer.
Also a few weeks ago I found John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls Royce parked outside the Abbey Road studios. John originall purchased this car as new in 1964.
John's Phychedelic Roller outside Abbey Road studios. Currently owned by the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria BC.
Originally painted black. The Beatles rode in this car in 1965 when they went to Buckingham Palace to collect their MBE honours from the Queen.
The car was driven to Spain whilst John was Spain filming 'How I Won the War' He sat in the car for hours avoiding curious natives and hidding behind the blacked out windows. He smoked cannabis whilst sitting in the car and wrote Starwberry Fields forever. It was1967 when the psychedelic design was painted on the car at a cost of £290 and was collected by a driver for John the day before Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was realeased. John was driven to Brian Epsteins house for the official press launch of Sergeant Pepper in the car. Only ten selected journalists were invited to the press launch. Of the ten was a photographer Linda Eastman. This would be the second time in a couple of days she met her future husband... Paul McCratney. My Beatles tours usually run most Thursdays in 2024
